Gainesville Moms

A place for moms to connect

I know it's only January but this weather lately has me thinking of summer time. I have a child that is Autistic on the high functioning end of the spectrum. She is only 6 years old and will be transitioning from K to 1st grade. Does anyone have any recomondations or know of any summer camps that deal with children with dissabilities. I would love for her to be in a reg setting playing with children over the summer.

I have a good friend whose 6 year old son is autistic and not on the high functioning end - not very verbal. Last summer, she enrolled him in the YMCA camp along with her 4 year old daughter who has no disabilities. She RAVED about the program, and told me that YMCA works with kids of all kinds of disabilities. I would be happy to put you in touch with her if you'd like to know more.

She started a non-profit called Will People to benefit kids with autism as well. Click here to go to her Facebook page to learn more.
