A place for moms to connect
An upset mother called her daughter's school after hearing that her daughter was being bullied because of her large breast size. The woman on the other end of the phone apparently told the mother that the child could either transfer schools or get a breast reduction. Can you even believe that someone would say that? The child has done nothing wrong. The children that are bullying her are the ones that are doing something wrong!

Are you as shocked as I am?

I was teased for the same issue in 6th grade. Ideally, the kids doing the bullying should be stopped, but I'm not sure bullying will ever go away. It's hard for a child to stand out in any way at this age. It would probably be more realistic for the mother to take her child to a good department store and have them show her what kind of clothes and bra to wear to de-emphasize the size of her chest. And keep reminding her, the kids teasing her are probably flat enough to make a wall jealous :)
Permalink Reply by Cherie Schneider on January 24, 2013 at 7:03am I agree-until adults get off their butts and do some work the bullying issue won't go away--it is alive and well in the schools--ALL schools. As for the girl, I have seen many children who need help with clothing--for goodness sakes parents don't allow your child to wear a shirt that is open down to their breast bone--last year I sent a child home with her parent and told him to get some camis that have a higher neckline--neither had any clue (single dad) and had a hard time finding help in a store too. We are bombarded by horrid clothing, the trends in the stores reflect this and then our poor kids are stuck with it. Girls who develop early or more than others really do get the mean end of life in school--in some ways the school uniform has really helped with this but--not when the shirt bought is too small. Parents, be kind to your children and help them. If you don't know how, then find a good store and ask. I agree, a good bra and proper fitting clothing goes a long way in this area. Kids are not nice-and I don't care if it is a public, private or religious school--the kids are not nice at all. Do your part--be a parent and help. Also, the squeaky wheel gets the grease at the school--:)
Permalink Reply by Deborah Allen on January 24, 2013 at 3:23pm When my daughter was in 6th grade, she was having an issue like this. Boys in her gym class would snap her bra while they were playing basketball. She spoke to the older female gym teacher, and was told to 'go in the locker room and take off your bra, you are distracting the boys!' I was furious. What, if they yank on her shorts or shirt are you going to tell her to take that off too? That was the last year my children were in public school. We had 3 different issues that year with 2 of our 3 children. We began homeschooling at that point.
I can't believe a teacher would tell a child to take off her bra rather than dealing with the children who are actually disrupting the class!
