Does anyone have any experience with pediatric dentists Ronnie Grundset or Toro Quinones? I'm looking for a dentist for my two year-old and they're among the few in-network choices for me.

When my son had Medicaid, we used Grundset, she was good. Now I use Haile Family Dental because my insurance doesn't cover her. Which I also like it there. I have no experience with Ouinones, but if they are at Coast don't go there. (I don't know what practice he's at, just know Coast is awful!)

I would never use Grundset! We had a very bad experience very bad. We use Dr Hank Silverman he's great or Kids only Dental they are in Haile village they are great as well.

Thanks, Melissa. I appreciate this feedback.

Brandy's Proud Mom,

Thanks for responding! Does Silverman let parents go back with their kids after the first visit? I think I had read on either a yelp/google review or maybe even here that he doesn't.

We love love love Dr. Ronnie Grundset. She took care of both our kids from ages 10 and 3 (when we moved here) till both were in their 20s. Our son finally gave it up when his 6'2" frame didn't fit on the tables anymore. And even after they started going to our adult dentist, they would go back to see Dr. Ronnie and let her check their mouths again. Yes, they had to go in the back by themselves after the first visit. But they never objected, fussed, cried, or made a stink. Obviously, if THEY weren't happy, they would not have hung on way past young adulthood to her practice. If I had had a dentist like her when I was a child, I would have a much more intact set of teeth. My kids, now 38 and 31, have never had a dental cavity. They truly had a great start on their dental health, thanks to Dr. Ronnie. I would strongly encourage you to take your child to her.
Yes you can go back every time if you want, I went back the first time but don't now, they are very nice there.

My daughter goes to Silverman, but I was under the impression that after the first visit, the office really does not like the parents to go back...Did they tell you it was OK?

I personally have had an awesome experience with Dr. Grundset.  My son is a VERY anxious/nervous kid and after a friend of mine raved about how great she was with her son I decided to give her a try.  I did research and saw that a child passed away while under her care a few years ago while under sedation.  I checked out her license and saw she had no disciplinary actions (like license being revoked) over the incident.  Also when I called to schedule they said they do not sedate at all.  So I gave it a try.

My son had some extractions and some fillings done he did not shed a tear.  He said he liked her and this is coming from a VERY nervous/fearful child.  He was 7 at the time.

My son now has braces (Pappas & Tapley is awesome!) and he is actually going in to see Grundset tomorrow for a cleaning.  She and her staff has been great in my opinion.

Could not find info on Quinones http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/IRM00PRAES/PRASLIST.ASP

NEVER USE GRUNDSET!!!! Horrible pediatric dentist. She has also had 2 pediatric deaths while doing office sedation there!! NEVER GO THERE!!

Pardon me but I believe there was only one death, and Dr. Ronnie was not found criminally responsible. There are risks to every procedure that requires sedation. This was a tragedy all the way around. If one were to take away anything from this tragic occurence, it would be to make sure our children NEVER need such extensive dental work that they would require sedation and have to run this risk, no matter how slim. Yes, that means regular cleanings, vigilant tooth brushing, rinsing their little mouths with water after every calorie laden beverage - especially at bedtime, easing way off on sodas, candy, sugared cereals, finding other rewards besides candy and sweets for good behaviors. In short, making sure our children have excellent oral hygiene. There will always be instances when children will need to be sedated. Now that Dr. Ronnie doesn't sedate anymore (her own choice), I am not sure there is anyone else willing to do it. UF used to refer their sedations to her.

Thank you! :-)

Going by my personal experience I like her, we actually visited her office yesterday and my son enjoyed his cleaning.  Also she no longer does sedation.

There was only one death and she was not criminally charged. her record is clear http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/IRM00PRAES/PRASINDI.ASP?LicId=7138&P...

Silverman is very well reviewed as well.  Although a mom posted that she used to work for him and did not like what she saw.(she did not clarify) but I think it regarded how they restrain children so they do not move while he performs his dental work.  She posted on Gainesville Moms but I cant seem to locate the post.  My son would not handle being restrained.  But I know with young children its difficult which is why sedation sometimes is the best option...but it can have scary consequences as well :-(

I don't understand why pediatric dentists don't let parents go back with the children, especially very young or fearful children. When we take children to the doctor, we would never think of letting them go by themselves if they are too young. Why should a dentist's office be any different? It makes me suspicious if they don't let me back.
