Gainesville Moms

A place for moms to connect

My husband will begin a new job in Gainesville (Alachua) in March.  Since we do not know anyone in the area, we are looking for apartments that will have lots of built in friends for our 9 and 11 year olds to play with.  We are considering Paddock Park and The Legacy at Fort Clarke because of the schools they feed into and they appear to be family friendly.   Does anyone have any comments on these two complexes.  Lots of kids or not??    Any advice or concerns?? We would also consider a rental house in High Springs if we could be near kids.  The kids and I will not move until school is out this summer for the kids and me.  I'm  a teacher and we also want the kids to finish this school year in Texas.   We want to do what is best for the kids in regards to where we rent. Also, any suggestions on churches?  We plan to visit The Rock because it seems to have a similar worship experience to our current church. By the way, we visited Gainesville this past weekend and fell in love with the place and people.  We are very excited about this new chapter in our lives.

Welcome to gainesville. I am also a transplant from texas. My husband and I own a home here, I don't have much advice about apartments other than what areas are safer than others. I do however have a suggestion on church services. I go to Countryside Baptist Church, it also has a school there. from prek-12th. My youngest daughter who is 8 goes there. If you have any questions or comments you can email me directly at westpage@ymail.com. Once again welcome.

Thank you

I'd go with Legacy. Paddock Park is cute but I think lots of students from the nearby Santa Fe college live there. There might be lots of students at Legacy too, it just seems nicer. Also my husband and I will be renting our house out soon. It's a 3/2 plus den and it's zoned for the same schools that Paddock Park and Legacy are, in a familyneighborhood. If you have any questions please feel free to send me a message.

Kathy,

Thank you for the information.  We would be very interested in learning more about the house you are going to be renting out.  You can send me more information to my email at danandlinda1995@gmail.com.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I live off Ft. Clark in a house. I see lots of kids of all ages walking to the nearby schools. Hidden Oak Elam and Ft. Clark Middle from those apartments. To me the apartments seem to gear toward families. There maybe students. I work at Publix and work with a lot of students and they live in apartment that cater to students. The schools are great schools. I would consider moving to anyone of those apartments. Your children can walk to school with all the other students. Also if your interested in the The Rock it is close by. High Spring is about 15 min away. I am not familiar with High Springs. High Springs is a small town. If you want to go shopping the nearest town is Gainesville. Some people like living in small towns.

Thank you so much for the information.  Yes we felt it was geared toward families and that will be great for the kids.
