Can anyone recommend a swim instructor who works really effectively with kids who have sensory issues around water in the face?  Basically, I'm looking for a kid-swim-whisperer.    I know my son needs to learn to swim no matter what -- but I'm not into traumatizing myself in the process ;^)  Thanks!

If your kid really has sensory issues with water, you might want to consider OT eval before moving forward with swimming lessons. With any new experience there will be some nervousness and anxiety. If you want a child led experience and your kid doesn't want water on the face, don't expect much results right away. If you want an experience where the child is supported as he moves through a new experience and may fuss and cry a bit and then progress to feeling satisfied and happy with their new skills consider watching ISR lessons and decide for yourself. www.babyswimsafe.com or www.infantswim.com. Not only does the child learn water safety and swimming, but your child's health is of upmost concern, the lessons are one on one, you are required to track intake and output for monitoring hydration to make sure child does not swallow too much pool water, and the lessons are only 10 minutes to prevent fatigue and hypothermia (unlike many mommy and me lessons). Good luck in your search.

I will recommend the ISR also.  My daughter took lessons at 2-1/2 and then a refresher last year at 5.  Cindy Falck was her instructor.  She lives between High Springs and Alachua.  I have seen Cindy work with kids with sensory issues and she is amazing.  She is always so calm and patient.
