Gainesville Moms

A place for moms to connect

Hi we just moved to the area (High Springs) and am looking for some fun Christmas things to do. I have a 2 1/2 year old little girl.

Wondering if anybody has any special neighborhoods that have a great light display?

Or do any local farms have hay rides or that sort of thing.

Thanks in advance. :)

We went to a place in Alachua Sunday night. Our 3 1/2 year old loved it! You park your car and tune into their radio station. also, the lights around the duck pond at North Florida Regional Hospital are great!

The place in Alachua were so good, I marked it on my phone for next year. Here's a link to the spot. :) https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&q=29.727117,-82.523804+(17105+...)

I run a website that lists everything there is to do with kids in the greater Gainesville area. www.fun4gatorkids.com - I have a whole page devoted to places to see Christmas lights - but not the neighborhoods. (Too many to list.) The North Florida Regional Medical Center has a great display all around their pond. You can park in the garage and then walk around the pond looking at the lights.

The Gainesville Sun publishes a list of great light displays at area homes. Click HERE to read this year's list.

My family always visits the Cade family's home in Orange Springs (near Citra) every year. Their entire property is decorated in over 150,000 lights. You can get out of your car and walk around their property and stay as long as you like. No admission charge.  Here's the directions: Cade home, 23373 N.E. 112th Court, Orange Springs. Just outside Horseshoe Lake Park. To find this home, take County Road 318 near Orange Springs; go south on Northeast 110th Court (entrance to the park) to Northeast 234th Place, then left and follow the light in the sky to Northeast 112th Court.

Thanks ladies I will definitely check them out.

Be sure to bring bread if you go to north Florida duck pond lights. The ducks are not afraid and makes for a double feature for the kids.
