A 17-year-old has been banned from walking across stage during graduation because he missed too much school. But the kicker is that the boy was taking care of his mother, who has stage IV lung cancer. PLUS, he was having to hold down two jobs!

Do you think the school should let the boy walk?

Permalink Reply by Barbara Paredes on April 18, 2012 at 10:31am Terribly sad situation. My big question is why wasn't this handled BEFORE now when graduation is an issue. Not saying it is his fault! The fault lies with the counselors and teachers who have obviously noticed he was missing so much school. Why didn't anyone step in to see WHY he was missing school? If they did that then WHY didn't they use a social worker to help with his situation? Seems like a lot of system failure here.
