I need to find a dentist for me and my 7 year old. I've heard that Dr. Silverman doesn't see older kids. My insurance doesn't cover Tioga or Milhopper Dentistry.
I'd like to go to Kids Dental, but can't afford it.
Any recommendations? Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Cindy on February 27, 2012 at 2:10pm Our insurance pays for Dr. John Vairo 372-0451. Our family, including our children (ages 5 and 7) have been several times. I feel that Dr. Vairo has not pushed to get unnecessary work done and actually has even recommended on just watching a crown that I asked about. Both of our children feel very comfortable going to get their teeth cleaned and my youngest son had an extra tooth removed. The tooth removal went much better than anything I had expected. I have also been allowed to go back with my children when they get procedures.

Permalink Reply by Natalie on February 27, 2012 at 9:22pm Dr. Silverman does see older kids, but usually the insurance only covers 25%. I have seen older teens in there before. He does not allow parents back though and the office staff are very nasty and rude. He is great though and so are the other people in the back area. Also the office is very nice for kids. If you can stand the snide remarks of the office staff and don't mind your child going back alone, it is a good office.
Permalink Reply by Cindy on February 27, 2012 at 9:44pm In all honesty, it was the remarks from the front office staff that really turned me off Dr. Silverman. I found him to be great and also the back office staff, but really got tired of trying to schedule appointments and dealing with the receptionist.

Permalink Reply by Natalie on February 27, 2012 at 9:52pm Be careful with them too because they have a required time that you have to cancel an appointment by or they will charge you the entire cost of the appointment even if they get it filled with another patient. I was FIVE minutes later than that time before and it cost me $150 that they will never see, because I will not go back because of this. Also, nowhere on any of their paperwork does it state the time, only that you would need to let them know I think 24 hours prior to the appointment, which I was still over 24 hours prior to the appointment. I asked to speak to Dr. Silverman and she laughed and hung up on me, she hung up on my husband too. I complained to my insurance about the treatment and unfair practices of the office staff. It is a real shame too because my kids liked the office a lot and I liked Dr. Silverman too, but what does it say about a dentist that lets his staff treat patients like that? I also have 3 kids so he lost a lot of business from me. I was willing to pay the 75% too for my oldest to go to him, but not anymore:( If you google him, you will see there are quite a few bad comments about his staff.
Permalink Reply by Eunice Coughlin on February 28, 2012 at 8:51am Dr. Yvette Godet has been a wonderful dentist for our family for the last 8-9 years (I can't remember exactly). She is very gentle and when she does work that's going to go on for a while, she plays videos for the kids while she works to distract them. Office staff is amazing, too. They're located right off of Tower Road so it's a convenient location, too.
Permalink Reply by Kiki on February 28, 2012 at 12:08pm Thanks alot this was very informative! . I have years experience in customer service and I take poor customer service very seriously. The front staff is the face of your business, there is no excuse to allow rude folks to turn off current and potential customers. :-(

My daughter recently started going to Dr. SIlverman, and we are pretty happy thus far. But I will say that at her last appointment, we had to wait a while before we were seen, which is not easy when you have a cranky toddler on your hands. :-/
