Any advice on fish tanks?

He cleaned ours for the first time when I got pregnant and was too big to move around. 30 minutes later all 8 fish were floating to the surface. I cried the whole night. Sorry for the sad story but it was a lesson learned. Tip: Don't clean tank with soap unless it is rinsed well afterwards.

haha! My husband is already saying he wants a bigger tank!

Amquel is good stuff. It should have some directions on the bottle for suggested usage. I would recommend adding some at water changes. You don't want to remove more than 2 gallons of water at a time when doing that. Also if you fill a bowl/bucket with that 1.5-2 gallons for 2-3 days prior to the change and it will generally lose the chlorine content making it less damaging to the fish. You could add stress coat, but the Amquel basically does the same thing. Also a rounded teaspoon of salt (natural aquarium salt) per 5 gallons helps their gills. If you plan on having live plants you should reduce that to 1 per 10 gallons or none at all.Speak with the employee's at the store about your plant selection and whether they, or your fishies can tolerate the salt. They also sell a little test kit that you can use to test for the ammonia Nitrates, nitrites etc. It can be fun to get the kids involved with that. I would suggest using gloves as it does involve chemicals. You do not have to use the salts. Those fish are pretty hearty and do not require a whole lot. With tropicals I like using charcoal filters as it is a natural way to remove impurities and I suggest using live plants they go hand in hand and keep the fishies healthy and happy and leaves you with that much less to worry with.
You will find yourself with a larger aquarium in no time flat and then you can say I told ya so :)

Right now we have two guppies, one of those Mickey fish, and three tetras. We also have a snail. The conditioner we bought is called Kordon AmQuel Plus. It says it is an ammonia remover and also removed nitrates, nitrites, chlorine and chloramines.

Without seeing the product it is hard to say because we don't know what you are trying to condition. There are several products out there that claim to do this, that and the other.What kinds of fish did you end up with? What product are you referring to?

So far the girls are LOVING the fish tank. We did have one fish that didn't make it, but it wasn't acting right from the minute we put it in the tank. Aubrey was pretty upset, but we told her that fish don't last forever. Quick question for you all since you all have given me some great tips...how often do we add the water conditioner? Just as needed when we have the water tested or regularly?
